An Otaku in Tokyo Ikebukuro's Animate
For the first time ever, an otaku steps foot onto their most anticipated countries ever--Japan, Tokyo.
Hello! My name is Faith,
you can call me Fae, it’s my nickname. Today, I will be showing some pictures I
took when I went to the ANIMATE at Ikebukuro which was near to the SUNSHINE
CITY PRINCE HOTEL IKEBUKURO that I stayed at. It was in 2016.
It was my first time in
Japan and I was ecstatic to be there, of course, since I was an otaku. Through
my pictures, I hope that those who are unable to visit Japan's ANIMATE will get
to experience ANIMATE from a computer screen/phone screen from the comfort of
your homes! Having seen many pictures online, I had high expectations and the
real building did not disappoint me! Enjoy~
Right
side of ANIMATE. Starmyu <3 The number of girls there was crazy!
Well, since Ikebukuro appeals to the female otakus~

Left
side of ANIMATE. There's Osomatsu-san and some gashapon machines below.
Hmm, there’s Detective Conan, Haruhi Suzumiya, Kuroko no
Basket and many ikemen anime I don’t know. They cost 300 yen, at about 5
Singapore dollars ($5). I didn’t buy any since I was mainly looking for Tokyo
Ghoul merchandise.
So
this is how ANIMATE looks on the inside. Some magazines, banners.
And
I spotted Bungou Stray Dogs just inside! Let’s see… they have keychains, files,
cushion keychains. So tempting.
Ooo!
Body Mist. 1800 yen + tax so around $22. It seemed Dazai was sold out, as
expected of a popular character XD
More
BSD merchandise. BSD was very popular around the time I went.
Haikyuu,
Prince of Tennis, Natsume Yuujinchou. The way they display the items make me
want to buy them and they’re all so cute!
Just
look at this beautiful lift! Attack on Titan’s Eren!
There’s
Mikasa.
This
is the inside of the lift. So beautiful.
This
was probably one of the posters outside the lift. I can’t quite remember.
An Eren’s
cardboard stand. It was human size. About my height, 158cm.
Floor
poster of B-Project’s Nome. Some posters lined the walls along the stairway! There’s
some magazines of AOT and Eromanga Sensei on the side. I see Code Geass on
the left and some ikemen anime I don’t know.
I went
upstairs by the lift and found Boys’ Love CDs. Didn’t take many photos on
this floor, people be thinking I’m weird by taking pictures of BL merchandise
xD
Then,
I decided to go down by the stairs and spotted Akashi from Kuroko’s
Basketball.
Some
beautiful artwork of Code Geass when I went down the stairs.
Yuri
on ice merchandise! Another popular anime! It’s a fangirl’s heaven.
Scrunchies,
keychains…
Some posters.
After that, I left ANIMATE since I couldn’t find any Tokyo Ghoul merchandise and visited K Books, which is also an anime shop store selling merchandise like ANIMATE and bought these Kaneki keychains. So cute! They cost me about $40.
All
in all, Ikebukuro is the right place for girls to buy merchandise of their
favorite boys while Akihabara is for guys to buy merchandise of their girl
idols.
I went
Akihabara and didn’t buy much since the target audience was guys and I’m a
girl. Didn’t take much pics of Akihabara since it started raining heavily and
I was stuck there in the cold 5 degrees with the heavy rain and winds blowing, freezing my ass off. Here’s the only 2 pictures I took.
As you
can see, there are many guys and it was about to rain.
So that’s
about it, you all! Stay tuned though, I will be uploading other pictures of
me roaming about Japan as I did go other places other than Ikebukuro &
Akihabara 😊
