Books VS Movies

There are so many differences between reading a book and watching a movie. I am going to list them down and the reasons why I like both in their own way.

Books

My friends would know that I'm an absolute book lover. I can read a book every day non-stop for hours without getting bored or restless. Why?

Because inside a book, readers get to know the characters personally, be it through the authors' description of their appearances, personalities, and backstories.

When I read a book, I am immersed in the book's world. It is as if we were the third person in the book itself and through our own eyes, we can see the characters develop into better people as they interact with others and make their own decisions as the plot progresses. We go along with the characters in their adventures and watch their actions in every sentence. It is as if we watch a movie in our minds from the sentences we read.

Sometimes, there is humor and bantering injected into the dialogue that can make the reader laugh out loud at the silliness. Sometimes, there are arguments and serious dialogues that make the reader ponder about deep subjects. There are also the characters' inner thoughts that allow us to understand why they say and do certain things.

As a result, the characters become precious to us, important to us, and some of us even become fond of the characters and feel an attachment to them.

The books are so memorable that even months or years down the road, we can still remember the time we read a book with an amazing and unforgettable plot.

As a writer myself of anime fanfictions, I have a deep respect for authors who pour their blood, sweat, and tears into the books we read.

While I understand that books are not everyone as it requires commitment and can take from 3 to 6 hours to finish one, I strongly encourage everyone to at least give a book a chance.

The beauty of a book comes from the strong character development, the chemistry amongst characters, the way we can understand the characters' feelings and actions, the interesting dialogues, and the focus of the plot. Of course, the beautiful book covers as well.

Movies

Every time a movie is released in the cinema, I would rush to see it. Most of the movies that I see, I have never read the book before. While I do love books, I also love movies in their own way.

As compared to books, the characters in the movies may lack proper development. Even if they did, we may not understand their reasons for why they say or do something that led to the development. The reason is that characters usually just act and inner thoughts are rarely shown in the movies. Then, we're left wondering why they did this or that.

Most of the inner thoughts might be converted into dialogue but they lack the true depth of the characters' thoughts.

As there is a limited time frame for movies, usually 2 to 3 hours, some of the stories are cut to fit the time frame. That means some important points may not be in the movie, which may contribute badly to the enjoyment of the movie. As a result, some parts may seem rushed to people.

For people who read the books before going for the movie, they may be disappointed in how some things in the book are not shown in the movie. Even if it is a small part or something that does not contribute to the movie much, like a humorous scene, readers would have wanted to see it in the movies.

On the other hand, the movie may have something different added in that is not in the books. It could be new and interesting and people may even like it, whether the movie-goer has read or not read the book of the movie before.

In my opinion, the best parts of a movie are the beautiful movie trailers and posters, the songs, background music, and seeing the characters enact their parts on-screen. These are things that we can never get in a book.

Summary

A book focuses mainly on character development while a movie may not cover everything in a book nor have perfect character development, it makes up for it in the actors and actresses that act out the character, and the music. I like books and movies in their own ways.
